Description
Metformin hydrochloride is an antidiabetic drug from the biguanide derivative group, which lowers the concentration of glucose in the plasma from the start and after eating. Does not stimulate insulin secretion and does not cause hypoglycemic effects mediated by this mechanism.
Metformin hydrochloride has three mechanisms for anti-diabetic action.
1-Reduces gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis, thus reducing the amount of glucose produced by the liver.
2-Increases the sensitivity to insulin in the muscles, increasing the capture and use of glucose in the peripheral tissues.
2-Reduces the absorption of glucose in the intestine.
