Arimidex oral tablets consist of 1mg of Anastrozole (a nonsteroidal aromatase inhibitor). It is an anti-cancer drug used for the initial treatment of breast cancer in postmenopausal women. Most breast cancers depend on the hormone estrogen for their growth. After menopause, the production of estrogen in the ovaries stops, but it continues in the fatty tissues of the body. Usually this happens when the aromatase enzyme converts other enzymes into estrogen. This type of breast cancer is often called estrogen receptor positive breast cancer.
Anastrozole is an aromatase inhibitor. It works by blocking an aromatase enzyme responsible for producing estrogen in the body. Ultimately, this will lead to shrinking tumor size or slowing the development of the tumor in some women.

When is it used?
In general, this medication is used after surgery and other treatments to help reduce the risk of early breast cancer coming back. It is also used to control breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body, also called secondary breast cancer.
Arimidex dosage
Arimidex is taken as a tablet once a day at the same time each day, morning and evening. However, there are certain conditions that must be met during the treatment period:
• If you forget to take the tablet, take it as soon as you remember unless the second dose is to be taken. Remember that you should never take a double dose.
• Keep the tablets in a safe place out of the reach of children.
• Store the tablets at room temperature, away from direct light and heat.
